We have updated our data and expanded the information and data sources we include in our Summary Rating to provide a more nuanced picture of school quality. Because of the updated and expanded data, some schools’ Summary Ratings have gone up and others have gone down, depending on how a school was doing in terms of the six areas that we rate (test scores, academic progress or student progress, equity, college readiness, advanced coursework + discipline/attendance flag(s)), and based on data available for each school.
The Summary Rating of a school may be lower within the new rating system because ratings now include more information - beyond test scores - to provide a fuller picture of school quality. Click on a school’s Summary Rating to see a detailed breakout of how the rating is calculated. The Summary Rating display will show you all the components used in the Summary Rating calculation (like the Equity Rating and Advanced Coursework Rating) and the weightings for each component. This multi-measured view of school quality can help you better see where the school is succeeding, and the areas where it can improve.
